It's an art not a science, and one that has been around since Cain first slew Abel. No matter how hard anyone tries, unless you're inside the enemy's situation room, you're going to have to make a guess. * Doesn't this mean that DWS is unreliable? We do not, however, hold back information necessary to the safety of the public. Information from confidential sources is vetted and, by necessity, often redacted to protect the source as well as not compromise national security or field plans. We often post news article links on our message board for commentary. However, most of our information is public knowledge and can be easily searched for. Over the years, The DEFCON Warning System has grown to gain some contacts within government and military agencies. We will then issue a warning which the public can decide for themselves what to do about. Our system is designed to be a barometer which will (in theory) see nuclear war coming much earlier than the government will admit. When nuclear war comes, the government is likely not going to say anything until it is much too late if ever. We also feel that nuclear war is such a terrifying subject that most people don't want to think about it. We can't possibly report everything, but we do try to pick out the stuff that can have the greatest impact. While there are many sources of news and information out there, we try to be one-stop-shopping for important and relevant information. We don't know them and wouldn't report them even if we did as that would compromise security.ĭWS is designed to be a digest of information related to the possibility of nuclear war. We are not affiliated with any government agency and DWS does not represent the alert status of any military branch. * Does the DWS report the DEFCON status of the US military? We will continue to update this FAQ as more questions are come across. This concludes this report of the DEFCON Warning System. There is quite a lot of confusion about The DEFCON Warning System, so we put together this FAQ which will hopefully help quell some of it. Additional updates will be made as the situation warrants, with more frequent updates at higher alert levels. Note that Twitter updates may be subject to delays. You may also subscribe to the DEFCON Warning System mailing list. Official news sources will have radiation readings for your area.įor immediate updates, go to Breaking news and important information can be found on the DEFCON Warning System community forum and on the DEFCON Twitter feed DEFCONWS Alerts. If this had been an actual attack, the DEFCON Warning System will give radiation readings for areas that are reported to it. At all times, citizens are urged to learn what steps to take in the event of a nuclear attack. The public should make their own evaluations and not rely on the DEFCON Warning System for any strategic planning. It is not affiliated with any government agency and does not represent the alert status of any military branch. The DEFCON Warning System is a private intelligence organization which has monitored and assessed nuclear threats by national entities since 1984. The DEFCON Warning System will continue to monitor the situation and issue appropriate alerts as necessary. It is possible that NATO could read any movement by Russia further into Ukraine past the already-occupied Crimea area as a threat to Kiev and Poland.ĭue to the possibility of conflict between NATO and Russia over Ukraine, we are alerting the public to be more aware of the events occurring in that region. This would put Russian forces close to Poland and would require NATO to react. The alliance is reacting as if they expect Russia to move for Kiev. Instead, any incursion by Russia will be limited to the southeast. The DEFCON Warning System does not believe that Russia plans to invade and conquer Ukraine nor threaten the NATO country Poland. The country of Belarus has stated that it will side with Russia in the event of war and has begun moving assets to the border. It is unknown if this includes Crimea, though there is no reason to doubt this. Additionally, it has warned NATO that any further buildup in the region will be interpreted a potential invasion of Russia. While there has been a force buildup in the region, Russia has now stated that it will invade the country if provoked. The situation in the Ukraine theatre has taken a concerning turn. There are currently no imminent nuclear threats at this time, however there are events occurring in the world theatre which require closer monitoring. Alert status for 1 P.M., Monday, November 29th, 2021.
